Anthropic has moved its newest content-creation tools from preview to general availability and is retiring the separate home for one of them. On October 8, 2026, the company took Claude Docs, Claude Slides and Claude Design out of beta across every Claude plan, including Free. It also introduced two new tools, Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion, and said the standalone Claude Design site will close on December 14, 2026. 1

From beta to every plan in about three weeks

The beta was short. Anthropic first introduced Docs and Slides, and folded Design into regular conversations, on September 16, 2026. That was the same moment it merged Claude Cowork and chat into a single Claude experience. 1

The company's release notes from that day describe the idea. Users can request a design, a slide deck or a document in any conversation, including inside Claude Code and the Artifacts tab. They can then refine the result by prompting Claude or by editing it directly. 2 Design arrived in conversations with its full feature set, including on-canvas editing and the ability to import an existing design system. Slides got a dedicated starting point for presentations. Docs was pitched as a way to write "living documents" with Claude and with colleagues. 2

At first, all three tools were limited to paid plans. Pro and Max subscribers got them first, with Team and Free promised later. 1 Opening them to every tier on October 8 delivers on that promise, and it means the Free plan now has the same creation tools that launched for paying customers a few weeks earlier. 1

Enterprise gets a different schedule

Large organizations are handled more cautiously. When the tools debuted, Anthropic told Enterprise administrators it would give them at least 30 days' notice before anything changed for their organizations. 1

The October 8 announcement sets out what that looks like:

  • Docs, Slides and Design turn on by default for Enterprise on October 15, 2026. Admins can switch them on before then. 1
  • Dashboards and Motion start out disabled. Admins can enable them in Organization settings under Artifacts. 1

The split tells us something. Tools that have been through a beta period become default-on for Enterprise. Brand-new ones stay opt-in, so IT teams can review them before employees see them.

Dashboards and Motion

The announcement gives the new tools' names and their Enterprise defaults. The material available doesn't detail what each one does. 1 The names suggest data visualization and animated content, but that is an inference. What is clear is where they sit: Enterprise admins control them through the Artifacts settings, which places them in the same family of generated, editable outputs as Docs, Slides and Design. 1

Why the Design site is going away

Claude Design started out as its own product at claude.ai/design. 1 Since the September merger it has also worked inside conversations, so the separate site now duplicates something already built into the main interface. 12 Closing it on December 14 gives users about two months to change how they work and to move their projects into the unified experience.

The pattern isn't new. Earlier in 2026, Anthropic added Claude Code access to every Team plan standard seat and removed Claude Opus 4 and 4.1 from the model selector and from Claude Code. 2 Each move cut down the number of separate entry points and options customers have to manage.

What it adds up to

The two accounts agree on the facts. The support release notes cover the September 16 product launch. 2 The October coverage adds the general-availability dates, the new tools and the shutdown timeline. 1 Together they describe a company reshaping Claude from a chatbot that occasionally produced artifacts into a single workspace where documents, decks, designs and now dashboards and motion content are made and edited in one place.

The speed matters. Moving from paid beta to availability on every plan in about three weeks suggests Anthropic was either confident in the tools' stability or keen to get them to as many users as possible, or both. Giving Free users the full set is a competitive move as AI assistants increasingly compete with office suites and design apps.

The main open question is execution. Enterprise customers get one week between general availability and default activation, and anyone still relying on claude.ai/design faces a firm December deadline. If the consolidation goes smoothly, Anthropic ends the year with a simpler, more unified product. If it doesn't, the cost will fall mostly on the users who adopted Claude Design early in its standalone form.
