TicNote Watch Puts Mobvoi's AI Note Taker on the Wrist for $249
A smartwatch built around the record button
Mobvoi has launched the TicNote Watch, a smartwatch built mainly to record, transcribe and summarize conversations rather than to track fitness. The company announced it on September 30, 2026 from San Francisco. It describes the device as a watch that captures and processes conversations from the wrist without needing a phone.3 The list price is $249, with a limited-time introductory price of $199, and it is sold through TicNote.ai and Amazon.1
The watch has a dedicated recording button. Holding it starts a recording within about two seconds, and recording works offline for both in-person conversations and two-way phone calls.3 A double press starts a short voice memo of up to 60 seconds. Mobvoi says this is for capturing passing ideas.3 Two omnidirectional microphones with noise reduction are rated to pick up voices from three to five meters away.3 The company claims more than 24 hours of continuous recording per charge and room for up to 200 hours of audio on the watch itself.1
The watch also shows a live transcript on screen in 17 languages. Mobvoi claims at least 98% accuracy and under 1.5 seconds of delay.1 Wearers can tap to mark important statements during a meeting, and those highlights are collected for review afterward. When a recording ends, an AI summary and mind map are sent to the watch.1
Where the TicNote Watch fits in the AI note-taker market
The TicNote Watch looks like a natural next step for Mobvoi. The company has spent the past year moving away from smartwatches and toward AI recording hardware. Its first TicNote was a slim, card-shaped recorder that launched at $159.99. ZDNET described it as a break from Mobvoi's watch business.19 By early 2026, Android Police noticed that Mobvoi had moved its TicWatch line down its own website. The outlet read that as a sign the company cared more about AI devices like the TicNote.9 The new watch brings the two businesses together. It keeps the familiar smartwatch shape but treats note-taking as the main job and health tracking as a bonus.
Mobvoi is not alone in testing new shapes for these devices. Digital Trends placed the launch alongside a smart ring with a built-in recorder (the Vocci) and a pen with note-taking features (the Flowtica Scribe). It argued that a watch makes more sense than either.5 That seems right. A watch is already on the wrist all day, already has a screen and is socially accepted in meetings. Pendants and clip-on pins can't match all three.
The competition is more established than Mobvoi. Plaud says more than 1.5 million people use its recorders and note takers.22 Several 2026 buying guides rate Plaud's NotePin S and Note Pro highest for transcription quality.2128 The market has also been reshaped by acquisitions. Meta bought Limitless in December 2025 and stopped selling its pendant.24 Amazon bought Bee, which reports say made Bee free to use beyond its $49.99 hardware price.2327 With one big name gone and another turned into a cheap Amazon device, there is room for a new kind of product. The TicNote Watch's hardware is a real step past the pins and pendants that dominate the category.
TicNote's AI tools: from transcripts to a searchable timeline
The software is where Mobvoi's ambitions are clearest. An AI Journal puts meetings, workouts, sleep, heart rate, blood oxygen, stress and readiness into one searchable daily timeline. Each evening, an AI Recap writes a summary of key moments and action items.3 Shadow AI 2.0, the built-in assistant, answers questions about past recordings. Mobvoi says it can also work with teams and other AI agents to turn notes into tasks.3 Recordings sync across the watch, phone and PC under one account, through the TicNote app and the TicNote Cloud web studio.1
For anyone tracking AI writing and meeting tools, the most important part of the launch is how TicNote connects to other software. A new TicNote API lets ChatGPT, Codex and Claude read and edit a user's recordings, summaries and knowledge base directly.1 A "bring your own model" option lets users add their own API keys for Anthropic, DeepSeek and Qwen models, with OpenAI support coming later.6 Transcripts and summaries can be exported to Notion and Obsidian.1
This matters because it fixes the biggest complaint about Mobvoi's software. A detailed TicNote review published days after the launch rated the original recorder fourth among AI voice recorders. It praised the hardware and Shadow's ability to search across all recordings. But it faulted the lack of model choice and the lack of an MCP server, a standard way for AI assistants to connect to outside data.17 The same review noted that Plaud and the rival recorder Pocket both let users pick their AI model and query transcripts from Claude.17 With the API and bring-your-own-model support, Mobvoi is going after exactly the buyers it was losing: people who manage their work through general-purpose AI assistants and want meeting notes to feed those tools. The idea is that the recording device is just a way in, and the real product is the archive of conversations it builds.
Where coverage of the TicNote Watch agrees, and where it differs
The main reports largely agree on the specs. Android Authority and Digital Trends both repeat the 24-hour battery, 200-hour storage, 17-language transcription and $249 price.75 The tone is different, though. Android Authority framed the watch as a meeting assistant for professionals who spend their days in meetings and did not question the numbers.7 Digital Trends was more careful. It pointed out that the accuracy and speed claims have not been independently tested, and it raised privacy concerns because people nearby may not realize they are being recorded.5
The skeptical reading is the better guide. The original TicNote's record suggests buyers should treat the watch's numbers as best-case figures. Android Police liked the recorder at MWC 2026 and called its transcription nearly flawless in a noisy hall. But it found that a 60-minute recording used almost 30% of the battery, which falls short of Mobvoi's claims.9 BGR found that most AI features run in the cloud, not on the device, so much of the product stops working without internet.11 Offline recording on the watch doesn't change that. Summaries and the assistant still depend on Mobvoi's servers.
There are also inconsistencies in Mobvoi's published specs. A comparison of AI recorders found that Mobvoi's own pages gave conflicting language counts and weights for the original TicNote.20 The watch's 17 live transcription languages are also far fewer than the 120-plus that Mobvoi advertises for the recorder.10 That gap may simply reflect the difference between live transcription on the watch and processing in the cloud afterward. Mobvoi hasn't explained it, so buyers who work in many languages should check before they buy.
Subscription costs and consent risks
Every TicNote Watch includes the Plus plan, with 600 transcription minutes a month, and Pro and Business tiers are available for heavier use.1 That is twice the 300 free minutes Plaud gives its device owners.24 Android Police called the 600-minute allowance generous for typical users.9 Subscriptions are still a sore point, though. Some Google Play reviews of the TicNote app complain about paying for a monthly plan on top of the hardware, and others complain about customer support.8 Long-term ownership costs matter across this category. One analysis estimated that two years of a Plaud NotePin S on an unlimited plan comes to about $659.23
Consent may be the bigger issue. Recording-consent laws vary by U.S. state, and guides to the category treat that as a real legal risk for wearable recorders.28 The TicNote Watch only records when the wearer presses the button. Analysts consider that kind of device less risky than always-listening ones like Bee.23 But a watch is also the least noticeable recorder on the market. The things that make it handy for sales calls, interviews and doctor visits also make it easy to record people without telling them. Mobvoi markets the watch to lawyers, healthcare providers, journalists and recruiters.1 In those fields, the rules around consent and confidentiality are often strict.
The takeaway
The TicNote Watch is the most convincing argument so far that AI note-taking belongs in a device people already wear. Its real advance, though, is in the software. The API and bring-your-own-model support turn TicNote into a source of data for whatever AI assistant a user prefers, which goes straight at the main weakness critics found in Mobvoi's earlier software.17 Whether the watch succeeds will depend on how its battery and accuracy hold up outside Mobvoi's own testing, and on whether wearers are open with the people they record.
