A soundtrack spike turns into a new tour leg
Tame Impala has added a 2027 run of UK and European dates to its Deadbeat tour. The announcement came in late August, a few weeks after Kevin Parker's song "Loser" played to huge audiences in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Parker and his touring band will bring the Deadbeat "in the round" stage production to a mix of arena headline shows and festival slots. The run opens May 28 in Manchester and includes two nights at London's The O2 on June 1 and 2.1 Wet Leg is booked to open every headline show.12
The published itinerary has two-night stands at Rotterdam Ahoy on June 7–8 and at Paris's Accor Arena on June 12–13, plus a June 17 show at Cologne's Lanxess Arena.2 The festival appearances are Open'er in Gdynia, Poland, on June 30, Rock Werchter in Belgium on July 4 and NOS Alive in Lisbon on July 10.12 The tour's running record dates the announcement to August 24, 2026, and describes it as a UK and European leg that includes festivals.12
The two music outlets that broke the news both framed the dates as coming "following" the film's success. That framing deserves some scrutiny, and this piece returns to it below. The timing is still hard to ignore.
What "Loser" did after the film opened
The numbers behind the Spider-Man connection are large. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with Tom Holland and Zendaya, took in more than $360 million at the U.S. box office in its first weekend. That beat 2019's Avengers: Endgame for the biggest domestic opening on record.3 The soundtrack mixes older catalog songs with newer ones, including tracks by TV on the Radio, Chaka Khan, Cannons, Bad Bunny and Steve Lacy.56
According to Billboard's streaming analysis, "Loser" did better than anything else from the film. In the movie's first four days, streams of the song rose 838% to more than 2.6 million. Over the same window, Steve Lacy's end-credits song "Oh Yeah?" rose 181% to almost 2.5 million.3 Billboard also noted that "Loser" had reached the Hot 100 only once before, entering at No. 91 the previous November, and suggested the film could send it back onto the chart.3 By the time the European dates were announced, the song had reportedly reached No. 1 on Spotify's global chart.2
That is unusual for this song. Billboard called Deadbeat, Parker's 2025 album, "polarizing."3 It was not the kind of record expected to produce a global streaming chart-topper almost a year after release. A well-placed scene in the biggest film of the summer changed that.
Fans had known the placement was coming. Discussion on the band's subreddit indicates the song's inclusion was public months before the July 31 release. Some fans were annoyed that early screenings in the UK spoiled the scene.8 Others described it as a party scene and argued about whether Parker himself can be seen on a couch in the background. That claim is unconfirmed and should be treated as fan speculation.9 The film is not Tame Impala's first Marvel appearance. Parker's music had been placed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before.4
Reading the causation carefully
The reporting does not fully settle the cause and effect. The headline story is straightforward: a hit placement brings a new audience, and the band adds dates. The tour's own history complicates it. The Deadbeat tour had been growing for about a year before Spider-Man opened. The spring 2026 European leg was announced in September 2025. More North American dates followed in February 2026, with Djo and Dominic Fike as support, and an Australian leg was confirmed later that month.12 Venue listings describe the run in terms of repeated sell-outs. Phoenix's promotional copy refers to "2025 and 2026 global sell-outs."15 Sydney's arena notes that the six-piece band started the tour with 12 sold-out North American shows in late 2025.13
Arena tours a year out are usually booked long in advance. It is unlikely the 2027 European routing was planned only after the July box-office weekend. The more realistic interpretation is that the leg was already in the works, and the film raised its profile and probably its ticket demand. Treating the Spider-Man link as the single cause gives a movie credit for momentum Parker had already built. That said, no source reports how the dates were planned, so this remains an inference.
The effect on demand is easier to see. The 2027 run gives some cities extra nights rather than a single show. The spring 2026 leg played the London O2 and Paris's Accor Arena once each.12 The 2027 schedule doubles both and adds second nights in Rotterdam.2 A ticket resale listing also shows a May 29 Manchester show next to May 28, though the original announcements list only one Manchester date.181 The reporting therefore differs on whether Manchester has already gained a second night. If it has, that would be the clearest evidence so far that demand exceeded the original plan.
Where the reporting differs
On the main facts, the two outlets that first reported the dates agree: the cities, the venues, Wet Leg as the opener, and the festival dates.12 The differences are on the edges. One aggregator's summary of the 2026 European leg lists one London O2 show on May 7 and does not include dates such as Lisbon and the two Gliwice shows in Poland.11 Those dates appear in the tour's fuller record, which lists 27 shows between April 4 in Porto and May 13 in Dublin.12 The same aggregator calls the 2026 leg a newly announced "big" tour, but it had already been played by the time the article was dated.11 Its listings are a less reliable guide than the original announcements.
There is also a minor dispute over credit for the soundtrack pick. Some fans pointed out that "Loser" is controlled by a Sony-affiliated label, which would make it an easy choice for a Sony-distributed film. Others noted that Parker's earlier Marvel placement had nothing to do with Sony.8 Tame Impala's current records are released through Columbia Records, which is consistent with the corporate-synergy theory.15 Synergy alone does not explain why a song from a niche album worked so well on screen, though, and no outlet has reported what drove the music supervision decisions.
Why it matters for Tame Impala
The bigger story is where Tame Impala sits now. The project began as Parker's home recordings and became a mainstream act with Currents in 2015. "The Less I Know the Better" has passed 2.5 billion Spotify streams.4 Deadbeat was a riskier release, and its mixed reception made a commercial fade look possible.3 The tour has instead grown from venue to venue. Parker is currently in the middle of an Australian arena run, and early reviews describe an eye-catching show that moves between upbeat and downbeat material.1912 That leg continues through Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney and ends in Perth on October 25.19
The 2027 dates suggest the album cycle will run past two years. Its third phase rests partly on a song that reached a new generation of listeners through a superhero film instead of a festival stage. The choice of opener fits: Wet Leg is an alternative-rock act with crossover appeal of its own. The festival slots at Open'er, Werchter and NOS Alive also put Parker in front of audiences who may know "Loser" from the cinema and not from Deadbeat.12
Most artists cannot arrange a hit film placement for themselves. Parker's case shows that when it happens to an act that is already touring at arena level, its value comes from the shows. A streaming spike can fade within weeks, but a double night at The O2 is already on the calendar. The film's opening weekend did not create the 2027 European leg, but it helped make sure the leg starts with Tame Impala at its most visible.
