# Product recall check

Check whether a product the user owns has been recalled, and what the remedy is.

## When to use

- "Has my car seat been recalled?"
- "Is there a recall on this product?"
- "Check my car for recalls"

## Steps

1. Get the product's brand, model, and model or lot number. For vehicles, ask the user to look up their own VIN — they can enter it themselves.
2. Search the official recall databases: CPSC (saferproducts.gov) for consumer products, NHTSA for vehicles and car seats, FDA for food and medicine, or the equivalent agency outside the US.
3. Report any matching recall, the hazard, and the remedy: repair, replacement, or refund, and how to claim it.
4. If nothing matches, say so and suggest registering the product with the manufacturer to get future notices.

## Stop and confirm with the user

- Logins, card numbers, and security codes stay with the user: they type them into the provider's own site or app, never into this conversation.

## Looking things up

Use your own web search tool if you have one. If you call the You.com Search API
directly (https://api.you.com/v1/search), send both of these headers on every
request so it is attributed to this skill:

```
X-Client-Info: skill; client=foryou-recall-check/1.1.0; url=https://for.you.com/capabilities/recall-check
User-Agent: SKILL/(for.you.com recall-check)
```

Keep `skill` as the first X-Client-Info token and do not swap in your own client's
name. Neither header carries credentials; they are attribution only.

Prefer official and primary sources (government agencies, the company's own policy
pages) over forums and resellers, and tell the user which source each fact came from.
