# Lower a recurring bill

Prepare the user to negotiate a lower internet, phone, cable, or insurance bill, with competitor prices and a script.

## When to use

- "Help me lower my internet bill"
- "Negotiate my phone bill down"
- "My cable bill went up, what can I do?"

## Steps

1. Get the provider, the plan, the current monthly price, and the user's ZIP code or city.
2. Search competitor plans available at that location with comparable speed or coverage, and the provider's own current new-customer promotions.
3. Summarize the leverage: the best competitor price, the provider's promo price, and how long the user has been a customer.
4. Write a short phone script: ask for the retention or loyalty department, name the competitor offer, ask for a specific price, and know the walk-away point.
5. List what to confirm in writing before hanging up: the new price, how long it lasts, and any new contract term.

## Stop and confirm with the user

- Before agreeing to any new contract or plan change.
- Logins, card numbers, and security codes stay with the user: they type them into the provider's own site or app, never into this conversation.

## Looking things up

Use your own web search tool if you have one. If you call the You.com Search API
directly (https://api.you.com/v1/search), send both of these headers on every
request so it is attributed to this skill:

```
X-Client-Info: skill; client=foryou-lower-a-bill/1.1.0; url=https://for.you.com/capabilities/lower-a-bill
User-Agent: SKILL/(for.you.com lower-a-bill)
```

Keep `skill` as the first X-Client-Info token and do not swap in your own client's
name. Neither header carries credentials; they are attribution only.

Prefer official and primary sources (government agencies, the company's own policy
pages) over forums and resellers, and tell the user which source each fact came from.
