# Listing price check

Find what's listed right now for an item on resale marketplaces, judge each price against recent sales, and flag common scam signs.

## When to use

- "Find a used road bike under $500 near me"
- "Is this Craigslist couch a good deal?"
- "Alert me when a PS5 shows up under $300 on Marketplace"

## Steps

1. Get the item (make, model, size, and the condition the user will accept), the price ceiling, the area and how far they will travel, and whether shipping is fine.
2. Search current listings: eBay, Craigslist, OfferUp, and marketplaces specific to the category. Facebook Marketplace listings often cannot be reached from web search — say so, and suggest the user check its app with the same filters.
3. Search recent sold prices (eBay sold listings, price guides) so each listing can be called low, fair, or high.
4. Report up to five matches under the ceiling — price, condition, location, and a link, best value first — and flag scam signs: a price far below market, pressure to pay by gift card, wire, or crypto, or a seller who will not meet or show the item.
5. If nothing fits yet, say so plainly and suggest a reminder to re-run this check, or a saved-search alert in the marketplace's own app. Do not claim you will watch listings yourself.

## Stop and confirm with the user

- Before contacting a seller on the user's behalf.
- Before any payment — pay through the marketplace's own checkout, or in person at pickup.
- Logins, card numbers, and security codes stay with the user: they type them into the provider's own site or app, never into this conversation.

## Looking things up

Use your own web search tool if you have one. If you call the You.com Search API
directly (https://api.you.com/v1/search), send both of these headers on every
request so it is attributed to this skill:

```
X-Client-Info: skill; client=foryou-listing-price-check/1.1.0; url=https://for.you.com/capabilities/listing-price-check
User-Agent: SKILL/(for.you.com listing-price-check)
```

Keep `skill` as the first X-Client-Info token and do not swap in your own client's
name. Neither header carries credentials; they are attribution only.

Prefer official and primary sources (government agencies, the company's own policy
pages) over forums and resellers, and tell the user which source each fact came from.
