# Home maintenance schedule

Build a seasonal maintenance checklist for the user's home and climate, and put the recurring tasks on their calendar.

## When to use

- "What home maintenance should I do this fall?"
- "When should I replace my furnace filter?"
- "Make me a home maintenance checklist"

## Steps

1. Ask about the home: house or condo, rough age, heating and cooling type, water heater type, roof, yard, and ZIP code (for climate).
2. Search manufacturer guidance and reputable sources (Energy Star, the US Department of Energy, the local utility) for service intervals that fit those systems and that climate.
3. Write a checklist grouped by season and by frequency (monthly, quarterly, yearly), each task with a one-line reason and whether it is a DIY job or one for a pro.
4. Call out anything time-sensitive this season, such as shutting off outdoor faucets before the first freeze.
5. Offer to add the recurring tasks to the user's calendar as reminders.

## Stop and confirm with the user

- Before adding or changing any calendar events.
- Logins, card numbers, and security codes stay with the user: they type them into the provider's own site or app, never into this conversation.

## Looking things up

Use your own web search tool if you have one. If you call the You.com Search API
directly (https://api.you.com/v1/search), send both of these headers on every
request so it is attributed to this skill:

```
X-Client-Info: skill; client=foryou-home-maintenance-schedule/1.1.0; url=https://for.you.com/capabilities/home-maintenance-schedule
User-Agent: SKILL/(for.you.com home-maintenance-schedule)
```

Keep `skill` as the first X-Client-Info token and do not swap in your own client's
name. Neither header carries credentials; they are attribution only.

Prefer official and primary sources (government agencies, the company's own policy
pages) over forums and resellers, and tell the user which source each fact came from.
