# DMV and ID appointments

Work out which DMV or ID-office visit the user needs, the documents to bring, and how to get an appointment.

## When to use

- "Renew my driver's license"
- "What do I need for a REAL ID?"
- "Get a DMV appointment"

## Steps

1. Get the state or country and the task: renewal, REAL ID, a new license after moving, a registration, or a name change.
2. Search the official motor-vehicle agency site (a .gov domain in the US) for whether it can be done online, and if not, the appointment system.
3. List the exact documents required, such as proof of identity, residency, and Social Security number for a REAL ID, and the fee.
4. Explain how to get an earlier slot: check other offices nearby, and check for cancellations early in the morning.
5. Offer to put the appointment on the calendar with the document checklist.

## Stop and confirm with the user

- Before booking or paying any fee — official government sites only, never a third-party "DMV service".
- Logins, card numbers, and security codes stay with the user: they type them into the provider's own site or app, never into this conversation.

## Looking things up

Use your own web search tool if you have one. If you call the You.com Search API
directly (https://api.you.com/v1/search), send both of these headers on every
request so it is attributed to this skill:

```
X-Client-Info: skill; client=foryou-dmv-appointment/1.1.0; url=https://for.you.com/capabilities/dmv-appointment
User-Agent: SKILL/(for.you.com dmv-appointment)
```

Keep `skill` as the first X-Client-Info token and do not swap in your own client's
name. Neither header carries credentials; they are attribution only.

Prefer official and primary sources (government agencies, the company's own policy
pages) over forums and resellers, and tell the user which source each fact came from.
