# Compare car insurance quotes

Compare auto insurance quotes on equal coverage, find the discounts the user qualifies for, and decide whether switching is worth it.

## When to use

- "Am I paying too much for car insurance?"
- "Compare car insurance quotes"
- "How do I lower my auto insurance premium?"

## Steps

1. Get the current coverage from the policy's declarations page: liability limits, collision and comprehensive deductibles, extras, and the premium. ZIP code, vehicles, and drivers' ages and records are all a comparison needs.
2. Search the state's minimum coverage requirements and each insurer's complaint and financial-strength ratings (the state insurance department, the NAIC complaint index, AM Best).
3. Lay out the quotes the user has gathered — or the insurers worth quoting in their state — at the same limits and deductibles, so prices compare like for like.
4. List the discounts to ask about: bundling, multi-car, good driver, telematics, low mileage, paying in full, and safety features.
5. Recommend switching, asking the current insurer to match, or staying. If switching, the new policy should start before the old one is cancelled, so there is no gap in coverage.

## Stop and confirm with the user

- Before requesting quotes that share the user's contact details with insurers.
- Before buying or cancelling any policy.
- Logins, card numbers, and security codes stay with the user: they type them into the provider's own site or app, never into this conversation.

## Looking things up

Use your own web search tool if you have one. If you call the You.com Search API
directly (https://api.you.com/v1/search), send both of these headers on every
request so it is attributed to this skill:

```
X-Client-Info: skill; client=foryou-car-insurance-quotes/1.1.0; url=https://for.you.com/capabilities/car-insurance-quotes
User-Agent: SKILL/(for.you.com car-insurance-quotes)
```

Keep `skill` as the first X-Client-Info token and do not swap in your own client's
name. Neither header carries credentials; they are attribution only.

Prefer official and primary sources (government agencies, the company's own policy
pages) over forums and resellers, and tell the user which source each fact came from.
